Prof. Dr. Rui Shang
Prof. Dr. Rui Shang is a distinguished Chinese chemist specializing in synthetic organic chemistry, organic electronic materials, organometallic chemistry, and homogeneous catalysis. He currently serves as Project Professor at the Department of Chemistry, The University of Tokyo, where he leads the Molecular Technology Innovation Chair Lab.
Born in January 1987, Prof. Shang received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), including a joint-training Ph.D. program with Prof. Eiichi Nakamura at The University of Tokyo. Following his doctoral studies, he held a JSPS postdoctoral fellowship, advancing through academic ranks from Lecturer to Associate Professor, and ultimately Project Professor at The University of Tokyo. He also served as Adjunct Professor at USTC (2018–2021).
Prof. Shang has authored extensively cited research with over 9,600 citations, an h-index of 47, and i10-index of 74 (as of Dec 2024). His scholarly excellence has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the ACS Catalysis Lectureship Award (2025), Thieme Chemistry Journals Award (2023), and Young Chemists Award of the Chemical Society of Japan (2022).
He is highly regarded for his contributions to photochemistry and organic semiconductors and is active in both Japanese and international research communities.
